How to Create an AI Workout Programme Prompt: A Copy-and-Use Template

Use this AI workout programme prompt template to explain your real timetable, equipment, experience, and preferences before reviewing a gym plan.

How to Create an AI Workout Programme Prompt: A Copy-and-Use Template

To create an AI workout programme prompt, describe the training days and session length you can genuinely sustain, the equipment you reliably have, your experience, one clear goal, and anything the draft should avoid. Request an editable weekly plan, not a promise or a diagnosis. The best first draft is one you can review, simplify, and log in a real gym.

Copy this template, replace the brackets, and base it on your actual week:

Create an editable gym workout programme for [goal].

Experience: [new / some experience / experienced]
Schedule: [number] days each week, about [minutes] minutes per session
Equipment I can use most weeks: [list]
Preferred setup: [full body / upper-lower / another preference / no preference]
Focus areas or exercises I enjoy: [list]
Exercises or situations to avoid: [list]

Make a weekly outline first. For each session, show the exercises,
sets, reps or time, and planned rest. Keep the programme realistic for
my schedule and equipment. Treat it as a draft for me to review and edit.

This is not a substitute for individual coaching or medical advice. If pain, injury, or a health concern changes what you can do, get individual guidance from an appropriately qualified professional.

What should an AI workout programme prompt include?

The key is not extra personal data. It is the few constraints that stop a plan becoming a generic exercise list. Current AI workout-plan tools and prompt guides consistently ask for a goal, training frequency, available time, experience, and equipment. For example, Simple Muscle's current prompt guide uses timetable and gym constraints as review points, while Your PT's current generator collects days, equipment, experience, and goal.

Use these six inputs:

  1. One practical goal. Say what you want the plan to organise, such as a strength-focused gym routine or a consistent two-day full-body schedule.
  2. Your real weekly availability. Write the days and time you can usually protect. Do not create a six-day plan for a two-day week.
  3. Equipment you can count on. List machines, dumbbells, a barbell, bands, or a bodyweight set-up available most weeks.
  4. Your experience. A simple label gives the draft useful starting context without claiming that an app can assess your movement.
  5. Preferences and focus areas. Include movements you enjoy, a preferred split, or training you want to prioritise.
  6. Boundaries. Ask the plan to avoid exercises you do not want. For pain, injury, pregnancy, medication, or a health condition, ask a qualified professional instead of a generator to decide what is safe.

A worked AI gym programme prompt example

Here is a complete example for someone able to train three short sessions in a commercial gym. It is a planning brief, not a universal programme to copy:

Create an editable gym workout programme for building a consistent
three-day strength-training routine.

Experience: some experience
Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday, 45 minutes per session
Equipment I can use most weeks: dumbbells, adjustable bench, cable
station, leg press, and bodyweight
Preferred setup: full body
Focus areas or exercises I enjoy: back and arms, dumbbell pressing
Exercises or situations to avoid: I do not want a programme that depends on
one specific rack being free

Make a weekly outline first. For each session, show the exercises,
sets, reps or time, and planned rest. Keep the programme realistic for a
45-minute session and the listed equipment. Treat it as a draft for me
to review and edit.

It does not require every workout to be perfect, try to diagnose a limitation, or invent a commitment beyond the available timetable. It gives the generator enough context for a usable first version and room to adapt when the gym or week is different.

How should you review an AI-generated workout programme?

Read the weekly outline before exercise details. Ask four plain questions:

  • Can I do these sessions in the time I wrote down?
  • Does every movement fit equipment I reliably have?
  • Is there an exercise I would not reasonably perform or repeat?
  • Can I describe one simple change if the draft does not suit my week?

Specific inputs help, but an AI draft can remain generic or unsuitable. A Time review of using ChatGPT as a personal trainer is a reminder that AI-generated plans need human review, especially where individual coaching is needed. Treat it as a planning start, not a verdict about your body or a reason to work through pain.

How do you use this template in PeakBFF?

In PeakBFF, open Program Coach from the workout area. Enter the useful parts of the template: goal, experience, equipment, training days, and context that affects whether the draft works. The current program form also offers session duration, program length, preferred split, equipment preset or custom equipment, focus muscle groups, and optional limitations or extra context.

Program Coach creates a programme draft for you to review and refine in plain language before saving. Generation is part of PeakBFF Plus. After saving a version you are comfortable with, run the sessions and log what you complete. The app does not assess technique, diagnose injury, or guarantee a plan suits you.

For the broader app-choice question, see our complementary comparison of the best AI workout plan generators for your gym equipment. That page compares planning approaches; this template makes your first request clear.

The simple rule to keep

Give an AI planner your real week, not the ideal week you wish you had. Name time, equipment, experience, and one goal. Review the result, edit what does not fit, and make completed sessions the record that matters.

Download PeakBFF on iOS or Android to turn a clear training brief into an editable programme and keep completed sessions in the same gym log.
